Pumpkin Pie Spice Playdough

All

Ah, Fall, let us count the ways in which we 🧡 you. That cinnamon that’s been sitting in the cupboard all year has just been waiting patiently for it’s month to shine. Those pumpkins that born and raised to sit front and center of all great October supermarket displays. The coffee creamers that show up just in time for the occasion. The lattes that, if you listen carefully, are quite obviously calling your name. Yes, our friends, this is fall. And what would fall be without pumpkin-spice starring in everything we make and consume?

Although 2020 has been tough, Fall shines a new beckon of hope upon us. So, what have the fine residents of Stephen’s Place been up to thus far in this glorious opening-of-fall month? Well, we’ve been making Pumpkin Pie Spice Playdough, of course. Want to join us? Here’s how you make this wonderment of all things Playdough:

For Pumpkin Pie Spice Playdough, You Will Need:

  • 5 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 4 cups of water
  • 8 tsp of Cream of Tartar
  • 3 tbsp container of Pumpkin Pie Spice or a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cardamom
  • 1 large saucepan or pot
  • Orange or yellow + red food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Put your flour, Cream of Tartar, salt, and Pumpkin Pie Spice into your large saucepan/pot
  2. Stir the dry ingredients together well
  3. Add the oil and stir
  4. Next, add the water and, if you’re using food coloring (you totally don’t need to because it will already look like it just turned up at your house all-falled-out. The color is just for a little extra All Hallow’s Eve oomph).
  5. Pop the heat up to medium and stir like you’ve never stirred in your life!
  6. Make sure that you mix all of the lumps out
  7. After about 5 minutes, your almost-dough should be darker in color
  8. Get that dough out of the frying pan and onto a generously flour-covered surface
  9. Knead your dough until the outside is no longer sticky
  10. Play away!

Please note that while this non-toxic pumpkin pie spice playdough is technically edible, it also has enough salt in it to make it pretty much inedible. There are variations of pumpkin pie spice playdough that have sugar or honey and canned pumpkin or premade frosting instead of salt. The salt makes the dough longer-lasting.

Happy Fall, and please keep your eyes open for more posts!
