Our residents love to paint and are always on the lookout for different paintbrushes to  paint with or canvases to paint on. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, there’s no better time to paint hearts with sponges–or any kind of paintbrush!

For this Valentine’s Day Craft, you'll Need:

  • Cardstock or card plates
  • Sticky tape
  • A sponge of any kind
  • Red paint
  • Pink or white poster paint

How to Make Spongy Hearts

  1. To get started, make a heart stencil that’s about half the width of the piece of card you'll be painting on.
  2. Place the heart stencil in the middle(ish) of your sheet of card.
  3. Take a few inches of tape and stick it to itself so that it forms a circle.
  4. Stick your tape circle onto the card heart and stick your card heart onto the sheet of card.
  5. Cut your sponge into 2-4 of pieces so that they’re easy to hold when painting. Making sure that each piece of  sponge substantial enough to grip.
  6. Dab each sponge section into a color of its own.
  7. Now dab around the edge of the heart stencil making sure to overlap onto the card below.
  8. Repeat until the lower piece of card is covered.
  9. And that’s it! Happy Valentine’s Day!
