Making A Difference: Stephen’s PlaceJacki Gallo, JD, LLM and CEOThe Wayne D. Kuni and Joan E. Kuni Foundation continued their decades-long commitment to community service when they created Stephen’s Place. Stephen’s Place is a unique, not-for-profit community, specifically designed to provide positive living solutions for adults living with developmental disabilities so they may live with meaning and dignity. Located in Vancouver, Washington, Stephen’s Place is a 41-unit Assisted Living licensed community. This community provides active lifestyles for developmentally disabled adults, which allows for more engaged, age appropriate and fulfilled lives. Stephen’s Place is excited to provide extensive programming, job coaching, positive social interaction, fitness and nutrition, volunteer opportunities and many more activities that help to create pride and independence for each resident.Stephen’s Place has a nurse available 24 hours a day, as well as dedicated staff all working together to provide proactive care for each resident. Three fresh, homemade meals are served daily as well as two snacks for each resident. Stephen’s Place provides outdoor activities as well. The custom-made greenhouse, run by dedicated volunteers and residents allows the cultivations of vegetables and herbs that are also used in our kitchen and served in our meals. The private courtyard screened-in porch and covered seating areas give our community the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful outdoors year around with their peers.Stephen’s Place is focused on family and community through empowering and enabling each resident to be a productive contributing member of society. We will continue seeking out and coordinating opportunities for our residents within the local community. Our goal is for the community to embrace Stephens’ Place and the mission as Stephens’ Place continues to reach out and provide solutions for developmentally disabled adults and their families. Stephen’s Place has so much to offer each resident. However, I believe we will learn more from our special residents than we could ever teach them. Please visit our website at stephensplace.org. Friendships and spirits soar at Stephen’s Place.
