Real Fruit Popsicles

Looking for some fresh DIY crafts for adults with special needs? How about healthy summer popsicles? These real fruit popsicles are seriously good and they’re so easy to make! They make a perfect summer dessert, afternoon snack or even breakfast on the go. And they look awesome as well.

Ingredients You’ll Need to Make Them:

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Fresh Fruit
  • Fruit Juice (apple, cranberry and pineapple work well) or lemonade
  • Popsicle Molds (large enough for full fruit slices. Molds with flat sides work well because they show off the fruit in its best light)
  • Food Grade Popsicle Sticks

Fruit ideas (pick one or many!)

  • Kiwis
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Raspberries
  • Peaches
  • strawberries
  • blueberries
  • peaches
  • kiwis
  • raspberries
  • apple
  • orange
  • watermelon
  • mango
  • cherries
  • pineapple
  • nectarines
  • blackberries
  • grapefruit
  • bananas
  • plums
  • melon

Fruits have different levels of sweetness. Therefore, if you're making your popsicles with fruits that are naturally less sweet, you can add a tablespoon or two of honey or sugar to the juice before pouring it into the mold. If you’re using already sweetened lemonade, your pops should be sweet enough already.

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice your chosen fruits into 1/4" slices (no need to do cut berries).
  2. Gently press the your fruit slices against the sides of each mold.
  3. If you’d like, you can use blueberries, raspberries or blackberries to fill any gaps (and they look pretty cool too).
  4. Make sure your slices are pushed up against the sides, so that you can see them once the juice is in and frozen.
  5. Pour until the mold is full of fruit, pressing the fruit tightly against the sides. Try not to smoosh the fruit in, you want to keep each piece as intact as possible!
  6. Fill the molds with juice and leave about 1/4" of space at the top for the juice to expand when it freezes.
  7. Place a stick in the middle of each popsicle.
  8. Pop your soon-to-be popsicles in the freezer overnight (or a minimum of 4-6 hours).
  9. Once the popsicles are frozen, you can run warm water on the outside of the mold to get them out and eat ‘em!
