DIY Magnetic Christmas Tree

It’s that time of year again, and before the red and green glitter mysteriously appears from it’s hiding spot, we have some winter activities to keep everyone occupied and amused. This simple yet highly effective DIY craft is great for sensory development, honing motor skills, and for those who LOVE sorting.

You Will Need:

  • 1x Baking Sheet
  • Small Magnets
  • Mini Gift Bows, Buttons, and Foam Stars or Other Shapes
  • School Glue/Elmer’s Glue
  • A Hot Glue Gun
  • Hot Glue Gun Sticks
  • A Pen or Pencil
  • Green Stock Card for the Tree
  • Brown Stock Card for the Tree Trunk
  • Scissors

How to Make a DIY Magnetic Christmas Tree:

  1. Draw a basic Christmas tree shape onto your green card.
  2. Cut out a small rectangle of the brown card to make the tree trunk.
  3. Using the school glue, stick the tree trunk onto the bottom of your tree shape.
  4. Place your tree off to the side to dry.
  5. Next, use your hot glue gun to attach the buttons, gift bows, and foam shapes each to a small magnet (you can also use small pieces of magnetic sheet for this). Make as many as you’d like to be used as ornaments.
  6. Once it’s dry, place your Christmas tree onto the baking sheet. You can either make it permanent by gluing the tree to the baking tray with school glue, or you can just let it hang out on the loose.
  7. Once everything is dry and set, you can start decorating your magnetic Christmas tree!! Then you can redecorate it as many times as you’d like. You could even use it as a schematic for a real-life Christmas tree.

And there you have it, an easy Christmas activity that keeps the glitter hidden and is perfect for people who love to sort.
