Employment Barriers for Developmentally Disabled Adults
Research indicates that despite the eagerness and motivation to work, the majority of adults with developmental disabilities are unemployed or underemployed. Adults with developmental disabilities make up approximately one third of individuals in the workplace, facing challenging differences in wage and compensation.

Opportunities for Disabled Adults with Developmental Challenges
Our local community is rich with opportunity for the residents we serve. We work with our residents in establishing relationships with businesses right in our neighborhood. You may see some of Stephen’s Place residents volunteering their time at local Animal Shelters, Coffee Shops, Elementary & Preschools, Habitat for Humanity, Hospitals and other local adult care homes.
In addition to volunteer opportunities, residents are given the opportunity to pursue paid employment. Jobs for adults with developmental disabilities may include but are certainly not limited to: office admin support, food service, product assembly, retail, athletics and for some, even business ownership.

There are countless barriers that prevent jobs for adults with developmental disabilities from becoming a reality. We work hard to break through those barriers and provide support and programming that will encourage and educate residents to achieve success in the job market. It is our experience that residents are eager to engage with their neighbors, local businesses and become an integral part of the community they serve. It is their desire to participate that fuels our efforts to provide the best possible avenues for employment and volunteerism alike.
